    Polyester fibres are widely used in the textile industry. The invention of the polyester fibre is attributed to J. R. Whinfield. It was first commercialized in the 1940s by ICI, under the brand 'Terylene'. Subsequently E. I. DuPontlaunched the brand 'Dacron'. As of 2022, there are many brands around the world, mostly Asian.
