Stratford-upon-Avon is a town in England. It is famous as the birthplace of William Shakespeare. It lies on the River Avon, 22 miles (35 km) south east of Birmingham and 8 miles (13 km) south west of the county town, Warwick. Shakespeare Memorial Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon: Shakespeare's Memorial Theatre opened in 1879 and burned down in 1926.
