    There are two main types of eye doctors, ophthalmologists and optometrists. They can work together for the best option for eye care.

    After medical school, they had a 1-year internship and a residency of 3 years followed by 1 to 2 years fellowship. They provide vision services, medical eye care, surgical eye care and plastic surgery.

    Optometrists take care of primary health care for the eyes after 4 years in professional program with doctor of optometry degree. They focus on regular vision care including exams, prescriptions and monitoring medically related conditions like diabetes.

    Opticians aren’t eye doctors but fill prescription given by an eye doctor after getting a 1 or 2 year degree certificate or diploma .They check lens prescriptions ,provide adjust repair glasses frames contact lenses etc .

    The right choice depends on your needs recommended by friends family someone you trust start with an optometrist if needed then refer to ophthalmologist if necessary if you need surgery start with appropriate specialty ophthalmologist.
