Chest congestion is the result of inflamed air passages in the lungs caused by a virus. Symptoms include hacking cough, chest tightness, sore throat and shortness of breath.
The common cold and bronchitis are viruses with no cure but some home remedies can soothe symptoms such as drinking clear fluids, using vaporizers or humidifiers, taking hot showers and over-the-counter pain relievers.
