The Archaeplastida (or kingdom Plantae sensu lato "in a broad sense") are a major group of eukaryotes. It include the photoautotrophic red algae (Rhodophyta), green algae, land plants and the minor group glaucophytes. [6] . It also includes the Rhodelphidia, an eukaryotrophic flagellate that is sister to the Rhodophyta, and probably picozoans. [7]
Glaucophyte. The glaucophytes are a small group of freshwater microscopic algae. [1] Together with the red algae (Rhodophyta) and green algae plus land plants ( Viridiplantae or Chloroplastida), they form the Archaeplastida .

Archaeplastida. (unranked): Viridiplantae. Viridiplants ( Viridiplantae, 'green plants') are the clade which includes the green algae and land plants. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] In some classification systems they have been called Plantae, by expanding the traditional plant kingdom ( Embryophytes) to include the green algae .

Bikonts include Archaeplastida ( plants and relatives), Excavata, Rhizaria, and Chromalveolata. These groups may have two flagella (although there are many exceptions). Characteristics. The unikonts have a triple- gene fusion that is lacking in the bikonts. The three genes code for enzymes which make pyrimidine nucleotides.
Archaeplastida ( red algae, glaucophytes, green algae and plants) Cryptista. Haptista. SAR supergroup (stramenopiles, alveolates, and Rhizaria) Telonemia. In 2012, this megagroup was defined. [2] History. Burki led a team of scientists that named Diaphoretickes.
A bikont ("two flagellae") is any eukaryotic organism in the group Bikonta. Many single-celled members of the group, and the presumed ancestor, have two flagella. [1] The TSAR supergroup is a group of Bikonts containing telonemia (T), stramenopiles (S), alveolata (A), and rhizaria (R). The SAR supergroup is a group of Bikonts containing ...
