2015年4月9日 · 信越化学工業株式会社（本社：東京、社長：森俊三）は、フォトレジスト関連事業の拡大をめざし、台湾に工場を新設する。 現在、台湾当局に建設許可を申請しており、許可が取れ次第、建設工事に着手する。 工期は1年程度、投資金額は約130億円を見込む。 フォトレジストは、半導体デバイスの製造に欠かせない感光性の樹脂。 シリコンウエハーにレーザー光などの光を照射し、集積回路を焼き付ける露光工程で使われる。 信越化学は、1991年に新規事業を創出する目的で金川千尋会長（当時は社長）を委員長とする「Z委員会」を設置。 同委員会のテーマの一つとして、フォトレジストの研究開発に取り組んだ。 当時、露光工程では主にg線やi線など高圧水銀ランプが光源として使われていた。
