2008年3月7日 · Hindi, English, Punjabi. Jul 30, 2014. #23. The most common word in Hindi is "Indradhanush". "dhanush" and "dhanuk" are also used in Hindi for rainbow, but the primary meaning is bow. Platts lists "boro" for rainbow. I haven't heard this word used for rainbow in Hindi or Punjabi.

"This specific thing was talked about in a previous sentence" is another reason for "the", while "first time mentioned" uses "a". There are around four or five other rules, describing situations where "the" is used. There is not just one rule.
