English. 業績. 概要. 重篤な疾患の治療法として移植医療があるが、ドナー不足の問題、また仮に移植できたとしても免疫抑制剤と副作用の問題が依然として残されています。 これらの問題を解決するものとして、再生医学、組織工学が未来の医療として注目されています。 組織工学は、1993年に米国の工学者であるLangerおよび外科医であるVacantiらにより提唱されました。 彼らは生分解性の高分子を足場とし、そこに細胞を導入し、増殖因子存在下で3次元組織構造を再生できることを示しました。 今後このような組織工学に加え、幹細胞生物学の発展が同期して、再生医学という分野を確立していくと思われます。 再生医学は、医学のみ、工学のみでは決して成し得ない学際的な学問です。
