Now that the rules have been released for the 6-player variant I’m starting this thread to collect first impressions thereof. I personally have little to contribute as I’ve not yet played Imperium or Uprising. But I have been studying what I can about the game in advance
HUANG is a 2 to 5 player game set in ancient China, during the time of the Warring States. You take control of one of the Warring States, battling to unite the country under your dynasty. Each player has five different leaders: Governor, Soldier, Farmer, Trader, and Artisan.
Classification. Between 230 and 221 B.C., the ambitious and extremely young king of Qin, Ying Zheng, unified China, adding all the other so-called Warring States (ZhanGuo) to his empire. Through this, Ying Zheng became the first emperor in Chinese history, taking the title of Qin Shi Huang Di.
In this game, 1-4 players represent prominent political factions attempting to gain control over the men who would be Emperors of Rome. Players deploy the influence available to them (represented by the cards in their hands) to claim imperial reigns (represented by the historical Emperor cards arrayed on the board.)
THE EMPEROR’S SIETCH. One of the most common first turn moves is for the Emperor to drop about 10 tokens into Habbanya Ridge Sietch. This is so common that many feel that the Sietch ‘belongs’ to the Emperor and will hesitate to drop troops there for fear of fighting a large Imperial force on turn 1.
In The Ming Voyages, one player will be the Ming Emperor who is trying to complete all seven treasure voyages, in addition to protecting the Chinese borderlands from invading barbarians. The other player controls the three disparate barbarian factions who are trying to settle on the borderlands with China.
