Jennette narrates it herself, which is amazing and gives the narrative voice even more depth and authenticity. But for me it also made it a little more difficult to get through. I grew up watching her on TV and hearing her story in her own voice was really powerful and heartbreaking.

There were a couple of people that would have made the doc worthwhile. Angelique bates was getting abused by her mother on set in front of producers and no one said anything. Jenette McCurdy has done enough. Her book being the whistleblower on this was more than enough to get the ball rolling on this case.

Apparently I didn’t though, and I’m glad I didn’t. This memoir written by Jennette about her abusive childhood experiences and her journey to acceptance and healing was poignant yet somehow still retained just enough of Jennette’s sense of humor to avoid being outright depressing. It wasn’t preachy. It wasn’t whiny.
