Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that helps send messages between nerve cells and plays a role in how we feel pleasure. Too much or too little of it can lead to health issues, including Parkinson's disease.

Made in the brain through a two-step process, dopamine affects many parts of behavior and physical functions such as learning, motivation, heart rate, blood vessel function and more.

Linked to too much or too little dopamine in different parts of the brain, mental health disorders like schizophrenia and ADHD may be caused by this chemical imbalance. Drug misuse and addiction also affect dopamine levels leading to emotional lows when sober.

In addition to mental health issues, dopamine plays a role in diseases like Parkinson’s disease where one type of neuron degenerates causing less dopamine production leading to physical symptoms; obesity may also be linked with problems with natural reward systems affecting food intake satisfaction due to low release of dopamine and serotonin.

Doctors use prescription dopamine (Inotropin) for low blood pressure, poor cardiac output or poor blood flow but there are possible complications associated with its usage such as irregular heartbeat etc., so doctor must know all medications taken before prescribing it.
