Fontenay-aux-Roses (French pronunciation: [fɔ tnɛ o ʁoz] ) is a commune in the southwestern suburbs of Paris, France. It is located 8.6 km (5.3 mi) from the center of Paris . In 1880, a girls school École Normale Supérieure was opened in the town.

Coordinates: 48.7889°N 2.2888°E. The Tokamak de Fontenay-aux-Roses (TFR) was the first French tokamak, built in a research centre of the French Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) in Fontenay-aux-Roses, a commune in the southwestern suburbs of Paris, France. [1]
History. The ENS LSH had its origins in two Écoles normales supérieures that were founded in 1880 and 1882, located in Fontenay-aux-Roses (for female students) and Saint-Cloud (for male students), both near Paris. In 1981, both became coed.
In 1946, the Fontenay-aux-Roses site was realized, followed by the Saclay site 6 years later in 1952. The Saclay site, located 20 km south of Paris on the Saclay plateau , is much bigger and was chosen in part to be close to Université Paris-Sud (which today is part of Paris-Saclay University ).
Pierre Bonnard was born in Fontenay-aux-Roses, Hauts-de-Seine on 3 October 1867. His mother, Élisabeth Mertzdorff, was from Alsace. His father, Eugène Bonnard, was from the Dauphiné, and was a senior official in the French Ministry of War. He had a brother, Charles, and a sister, Andrée, who in 1890 married the composer Claude Terrasse. [5]
