長い歴史を持つ東京女子医科大学消化器・一般外科は、患者中心の医療と優れた臨床医の育成、臨床に即した医学研究を行うことを目的として1965年に開設されました。 設立当初より診療科の壁を越えた総合的、先端的医療が実践されており、心温かな良い臨床医を育てることを目標にしています。 消化器・一般外科内で他の3科（上部消化管外科、下部消化管外科、肝胆膵外科）と連携しながら診療を行っています。 炎症性腸疾患は、内科医、小児科医と外科医が協力しながら治療を継続していかなければならない疾患です。 内科治療の選択肢が増えましたが、一定の割合で手術が必要となる患者さんがいます。
