PTFE has one of the lowest coefficients of friction of any solid. Polytetrafluoroethylene is used as a non-stick coating for pans and other cookware. It is non-reactive, partly because of the strength of carbon–fluorine bonds, so it is often used in containers and pipework for reactive and corrosive chemicals.
The primary methods currently used in industry are sodium etching and plasma etching. Results of ion beam treatment and laser surface roughening have also been reported in the literature, but do not have a significant presence as commercial processes.
PTFE fiber is a chemically resistant material. It is used in woven form in certain pump packings [1] as well as in nonwoven form in hot gas bag filters for industries with corrosive exhausts. [2][3]
