Etymology The generic name Phaseolus was introduced by Linnaeus in 1753, from the Latin phaseolus, a diminutive of phasēlus, in turn borrowed from Greek φάσηλος / phasēlos of unknown origin.
Structure. In insects, polytene chromosomes are commonly found in the salivary glands; they are also referred to as "salivary gland chromosomes".
